Family-friendly Mozirje: easy days out with kids

Wide-open meadows and mountain views: the kind of easy outdoor day kids love. Photo by Alexander Dummer on Pexels
Mozirje is a wonderful place for a family holiday. Distances are short, the pace is gentle and there is plenty of nature to explore without long car journeys. Creekside House K at Ob Savinji 1 gives you space to spread out, a fully equipped kitchen for easy family meals and the creek right outside. Here are our favourite family ideas.
Easy walks by the water
Children love water, and in Mozirje it is everywhere. Short, flat walks along the Savinja and the creeks around town are perfect for little legs and buggies on the easier paths. Look for fish in the clear water, throw pebbles from the gravel banks and spot ducks and dippers. Please keep a close eye on children near the river: the water is cold and the current can be strong, especially after rain or during snowmelt.

Mozirski gaj: the flower park
Mozirski gaj is the town's big flower park, around seven hectares of gardens on the bank of the Savinja. Paths are easy to walk, there are ponds, colourful flowerbeds and an open-air ethnographic museum with old farm buildings, which children often find fascinating. It usually opens from mid-April to mid-October, and seasonal events are often aimed at families. In winter, the Christmas lights can make a magical evening outing. Check current opening times and events before your visit.
Golte with children
The Golte plateau above Mozirje is great for families. In summer, gentle meadow walks, themed trails and the alpine garden are suitable for school-age children, and it is a good place for a first taste of the mountains. In winter, Golte is a small ski area that suits families and beginners when there is snow. It is cooler at altitude, so pack an extra layer for everyone.

Logar Valley for families
The valley floor in Logar Valley is wide and mostly flat, which makes it ideal for families. Walk or cycle part of the way, have a picnic by the meadows, and take the short walk to the Rinka waterfall at the end of the valley. Older kids can manage the walk easily; for small children, a carrier is handy for the last stretch. Read more in our guide to the best day trips from Creekside House K.

Cycling with kids
If your family likes to cycle, you do not need to bring your own bikes. TIC Mozirje (the tourist information centre at Hofbauerjeva 28) rents out regular bikes, e-bikes, a children’s bike and two child seats for younger children. A regular or children’s bike costs €5 for 1 hour, €10 for 3 hours or €20 for 24 hours, and a child seat is €5 however long you keep it. E-bikes for the adults are €10, €20 or €35. TIC is open Monday to Friday, 9:00–16:00, so ask in advance if you want bikes for the weekend. See bike and e-bike rental in Mozirje for contact details. Prices are from Visit Mozirje (November 2026).
